TOGETHER WE CAN PRESERVE
THE HEART OF TEXAS!

DEEPENING THE HEART OF TEXAS...

Deep in the heart of every Texan is an abiding love of the land.  It is the land that shapes the character of the people and the desire to live in the heart of Texas.

The natural beauty and threats to the land inspire the desire to protect and preserve Texas for future generations.

WHAT WE DO

At the Heart of Texas Conservancy our mission is to preserve and protect the natural heritage of the Texas landscape for current and future generations.

CONSERVATION

Custom conservation agreements are tailored to achieve the goals of landowners seeking to preserve the natural and agricultural heritage of their land and leave a legacy for future generations.

ADVOCACY

Through heartfelt outreach, collaboration and education, we inspire landowners and decision makers to steward and protect the scenic vistas, natural resources and wildlife that enrich life throughout

Texas.

IMPACT

Founded in 1998, our land trust has conserved thousands of acres throughout the Texas Hill Country, including the passage of two county bonds establishing parks and protecting natural resources.

WHY CONSERVATION EASEMENTS?

  • A conservation easement is a time-tested tool for landowners to minimize development of their property by selling or donating certain property rights.

  • Land Trusts monitor the property annually and ensure the donor’s wishes are protected in perpetuity -and legally enforced, if ever necessary.

  • Protecting land through a conservation easement can be one of the smartest ways to conserve the land you love, while maintaining private property rights and possibly realizing significant tax benefits.

  • Through conservation easements, the land and its beauty are forever protected for ourselves and future generations.

PROTECTING THE LAND

According to a recent Texas Land Trends report, every day Texas loses over 1,000 acres to fragmentation and development.

We are here to support landowners who wish to protect their land from harmful development, to advise developers pursuing responsible practices and encourage communities to preserve their natural resources.

In addition to conserving land through conservation agreements, our efforts have helped to establish 4 county parks in the Texas Hill Country.

INSPIRATION

REPLENISHING OUR HILLS

Written by Brent Evans, co-founder and long-time Executive Director of the conservancy, and John Freud, a nature photographer who generously donated the use of his photos for our website.

Replenishing Our Hills includes inspiring images of conserved land, provides a history of conservation efforts in the Hill Country, and highlights the contributions of regional land trusts and other conservation organizations.

With a goal of celebrating and inspiring grass-roots conservation, Freud and Evans showcase, through words and imagery, places that have been cared for and preserved by a generation of local landowners, local governments, and local nonprofits.

Replenishing Our Hills serves as an invaluable and inspiring resource for those new or familiar to land stewardship.
